CLINIC OPERATIONS

Our dedicated medical and support staff serve as many as 92 patients weekly at clinic sites.  On alternate Tuesdays, the Mobile Health Clinic operates out of the Bel Air Lions Club Health Centre (serving the Sophia community) and St. Pius X R.C. Church (serving the Albouystown/La Penitence/Laing Avenue communities) and on alternate Thursdays, Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church (serving the Alexander Village/Meadow Bank/East Bank communities) and the Holy Spirit Parish Hall (serving the North Ruimveldt communities).

Formerly the clinic at North Ruimveldt was held in the Holy Spirit Church, but since the completion of the Parish Hall, the clinic was transferred to that location where accommodations are more comfortable for both patients and staff.  Chairs were purchased by the Clinic for seating patients in North Ruimveldt Parish Hall.  Formerly, benches were used which were not always comfortable for the elderly.  The parking facility for the caravan is still not adequate so this vehicle is still parked in the churchyard.

Many of our original patients still frequent the clinic and new ones register and remain regular clients.  Others have come for short periods and may not return for a variety of reasons. The Clinic now has over 4,965 registered patients.

All appropriate data is entered into our computer for future reference as needed for medical follow-up and statistical reports.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Early one morning, before the arrival of the doctor, a child about two years old was brought to the clinic suffering from severe dehydration after having diarrhoea for several days. The Nurse, seeing the child's condition, administered oral re-hydration fluids until the doctor arrived.  After consultation with the doctor, admission was advised.

The child was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital immediately by the Mobile Clinic Staff. The following day, after treatment, the child was better, hence discharged on the next day. No one would have believed at discharge that it was the same child we admitted twenty four hours earlier. The child in the arms of the mother was smiling and talking. The Clinic Staff rejoiced.
